The Phra Nakhon district actually contains a selection of subdistricts including Samran Rat and Sampheng which tend to merge into the area south of Dusit. In fact, the district can be seen as an extension of Dusit as it contains numerous governmental type related uses as well as the UN HG for Asia.
Location within Bangkok
Slightly north west of the main city areas, to the south of Dusit and wedged into a bend of the Chao Phraya River (to the west) and the Sirat Expressway to the east.
Part of the original MRT line passes through this area before it crosses the River, with the main stations being Hua Lumphang and Sam Yot.
Other main transport links
Apart from traffic on the River itself there are a number of waterways for water taxis. There are also the Rama VII and Pink Lao bridges which cross to urban areas west of Bangkok.

Mainly very traditionally street side shopping, with some smart cafes and restaurants servicing the UN staff and governmental office workers.
The well-known Sanam Luang (venue of various large meetings/gatherings) and Rommanat Parks are in the area. There are also plenty of temples, statues and monuments and historical buildings and the National Museum and Democracy Monument.
